Google News Initiative & Poytner Student Fellowship Initiative

Apply Today to Join the Next Cohort of Google News Initiative & Poytner Student Fellows

Note: deadline for application submissions has been extended to July 28, 2023.

The Google News Initiative and The Poynter Institute recently announced the launch of a student fellowship program that will focus on combating mis- and disinformation. Misinformation can spread quickly, especially on social media, and this fellowship was established with the goal of fighting mis- and disinformation, replacing it with unbiased truth from local student journalists.

YR Media was selected to be one of a handful of respected news outlets hosting student fellows to champion this work. The program launches in the 2023 fall semester and will provide fellows with a $10,000 stipend - to be distributed through the course of the fellowship program; training through the Google News Lab and Poynter’s MediaWise initiative; and membership to the fall cohort of their Campus Correspondents program.

We encourage you to apply. This fellowship requires at least 18 years old, eligible to work in the US, enrolled in an accredited college or university, and have the ability to work in person.
