Since YR Media’s inception, we’ve been on a mission to amplify the voices of the future, and our Media Education team is a critical component of this transformative work. This dedicated team is committed to guiding and supporting YR Stars as they turn their ideas into multimedia content that reaches the masses.

Meet the Team

Shirley Yee - Senior Director, Programs

Shirley’s passion for social justice and equity, married with her dedication to addressing systemic issues fuels her commitment to supporting BIPOC youth voices. 

Favorite Oakland Eateries: Cam Huong, Mijori Sushi, Pintoh Thai, and La Guerrera's.


Samantha “Sam” Stiede - Case Manager

Sam began her career in social work in 2015 and instantly fell in love with the honesty, rawness, and passion of the young people she worked with. She is a proponent of giving young people access to resources and YR allows her to do just that. 

Favorite Oakland Eateries: Belly and Enssaro.


Vanessa DeNino - Impact & Evaluations Manager

Vanessa cherishes seeing the impact that its programs have on the young stars that YR serves. Vanessa’s journey in education started 13 years ago when she embarked on her career as a visual artist and community arts educator. 

Favorite place for a burger: Cato’s Alehouse. 


Wen Yu - Video Instructor

Wen brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to providing a platform for young voices. She believes in the importance of listening to the youth, guiding them as they navigate their unique stories.

Bianca “Binx” Taylor - Graphic Design and Digital Art Instructor

Binx finds joy in being a supportive and encouraging presence in a youth's life. The rewarding experience of learning from the youth fuels her passion for teaching and supporting them.

Teresa Wierzbianska - Journalism Instructor

Teresa loves working with young people and says their energy keeps her feeling young. She finds inspiration in helping  young creatives organize their ideas and amplify their voices.

Vivienne Alcantar - Podcast and Music Instructor

Vivienne is a Bay Area native who understands the importance of accessible arts education for young people. It’s because of this that she is motivated by YR Media’s mission to create safe and innovative spaces, and why she  works tirelessly to support  youth voices.

Tamila “Shy” Walker - Administrative Assistant

Shy, is the one who holds everything together. They have always been a champion for sharing diverse perspectives and driven by the desire to provide youth in the city with a better chance at a good life.
