YR Media’s Notable Alumni

Throughout our 30-year history, YR Media has inspired and trained young content creators from underrepresented communities. Many that have come through the program have gone on to have lucrative careers in media and we are proud to be a part of their success journey. Let’s meet some of YR Media alumni that are contributing their unique perspectives to the world through their different backgrounds and industries.

Pendarvis Harshaw 

Pendarvis is the host of “RightNOWISH” on KQED-FM, a columnist for KQED Arts, and the author of "OG Told Me," a memoir about growing up in Oakland. Through his work on radio and in print, Pendarvis brings to life stories that give the audience a fresh and dynamic take on the world around us.


Kenny is the Communications Director at REFORM Alliance, a justice reform organization founded by Jay-Z and led by board members such as Priscilla Chan and Robert F. Smith. In his role, Kenny is at the frontlines of working to reshape probation and parole systems, advocating for a more just and equitable society.


Nishat is a trailblazer in the podcasting world. As the Senior Vice President and Executive Producer at Vox Media Podcast Network,  she plays a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of digital media, bringing compelling and diverse stories to audiences worldwide.


Ayesha is the founder of BE-IMAGINATIVE, an Emmy Award-winning collective that harnesses the power of creative storytelling for healing and empowerment. She champions creativity, innovation, and encourages individuals to embrace their unique voices and visions.


Oliver, aka Kuya Beats, has a passion for music and community that drives him to teach and inspire the next generation of artists. Aside from his current role as YR Media’s Music Production Manager, he is also a multi-talented artist and a member of the hip-hop group, the HBK Gang.


Sabby is an Associate Producer for The Washington Post Reports Podcast. She has been recognized with prestigious awards, including being a Pulitzer Prize finalist, Gracie Award-winner, and Edward R. Murrow Award-winner.
