Celebrating Asian Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Celebrating Asian Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May is officially Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, so we are calling our supporters’ attention to YR Media to check out content that sheds light on the experiences, dreams and aspirations of the AAPI community.
In “AAPI Need Transformative Representation in Hollywood,” content creator Kami Bataclan explores depictions of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in mainstream media.

"Transformative representation is much more important than performative representation. It is crucial that the actors playing Asian American and Pacific Islander roles belong to those communities to show utmost respect. Representation behind the screen is equally as important, from the executives and directors to the writers and artists, so people can tell their own stories,” said Bataclan in an audio essay that aired on KCBS radio, San Francisco.

We won’t stop the AAPI celebration and perspective simply because May is ending. Visit YR.Media to read year-round coverage that reflects the unique perspectives, accomplishments and challenges faced by AAPI youth.
